Papa John's Delivery

This weeks pizza is from Papa John's.  This isn't one of my favorite pizzas, but we tried it anyway. 

Ian ordered our pizza online. He found the ordering process easy and accurate.  When he ordered the pizza, it even did some suggestive marketing.  We ended up with bacon cheese sticks. 
Ian: Would you like bacon on the cheese sticks?
Me: When has anyone ever said no to bacon?!?!

They were pretty good, but they only came with garlic butter and tomato sauce.  I would have loved some cheese! Besides, there was BACON! (Basically, they are pizza without sauce.)


We ordered half with the usual: Bacon, Tomato, and Mushroom and half with Pepperoni, Sausage, and Bacon.  Papa John's did well with keeping the toppings on their own sides.  I pretty much stayed with the Tomato, Mushroom, and Bacon side.  The tomatoes and mushrooms were good.  I just wish the bacon was just a little more flavorful.  The crust was very bread stick'ish.  I dipped it in the garlic butter.  I also ate the peppercini that came with the pizza.  It was spicey and delicious. 
Papa John's isn't one of my absolute favorites, but it holds its own.  I give Papa John's Pizza 2 and 3/4 pizza pies out of 4.  If you aren't feeling like cooking and want pizza delivered to your door, order some Papa John's Pizza!

Puccini's Smiling Teeth Pizza

This week for lunch, Ian and I went to Puccini's Smiling Teeth Pizza.
I didn't realize this place was a "chain" until I looked up their web site.  We went the the 82nd Street location in Indianapolis.
We started out with an order of Bruchetta.

The Bruchetta here has tiny toasted bread and a sauce with fresh tomotoes, basil, olive oil, onions, and vinegar.  The only thing that is a little different with this recipe was, the cheese is goat cheese.  I know a lot of people that don't eat goat cheese.  I think the goat cheese gave it a good flavor and a bit of a different texture than mozerella gives the dish.  I really enjoy Puccini's Bruchetta!

The pizza at Puccini's has a nice bread like crust.  We ordered bacon, tomotoes, and mushrooms as our toppings.  Those are toppings we order on a regular basis.  The bacon is in good size pieces, the tomatoes are whole slices of roma tomatoes, and the mushrooms were miniture portabellas.  The toppings here are always fresh and taste great. The cheese has a great texture like a great mozerella should have. The crust is almost like a bread stick.  That's the only thing I'm going to pick on a bit: the crust could use a little bit of garlic butter or something.  
When we went for lunch this week, they were busier than we had ever seen them at lunch. The service is always very good, as it was this week.  I think Puccini's has a great pizzaria type restaurant experience.  I give their pizza a 3 and a 1/2 pizza pie rating out of four rating!  This pizza is pretty awesome, and the dining experience is pleasant.

California Pizza Kitchen: Margherita Pizza

The pizza Ian and I tried this weekend was the California Pizza Kitchen's Margherita Pizza.  I think this is going to be my first unfavorable pizza blog, but I'll get to that.

This pizza, the Margherita pizza, is a "Crispy thin crust pizza topped with olive oil, tomatoes, mozzarella cheeses, parmesan, asiago and romano cheeses, and basil." Now, all of these ingredients sound awesome, they just don't all hold up to freezing.

This pizza is wrapped in a pull apart plastic wrapping. One would think this would help the toppings stay on top of the pizza, but when I opened it, toppings went every where. 
You can see in this picture how the toppings don't even go to the edge of the crust.  I tried to rearrange the toppings a little, but they just kept tumbling off.
The edges of the pizza don't really have cheese or toppings on them, so, they quickly became over-cooked. This made the crust taste like cardboard, and way too crunchy! The seasoning was ok, but less than I was expecting.  The tomatoes had a bit of a bland flavor.  The "sauce" for this pizza is the olive oil.  Well, it could have used a tad more.  The cheese could have been a bit cheesier for my taste.  The flavor as a whole wasn't completely awful, it just wasn't great. The weirdest thing about this pizza is, it was watery! I don't know if it was the cooking of the frozen tomatoes, or the olive oil (I don't know how olive oil would get watery!), but the water was dripping down my fingers as I at the pizza! This pizza is barely on my scale. I give the California Pizza Kitchen's Magherita pizza a 1/4 of a pizza pie out of four rating! This frozen pizza needs a pizza overhaul in my opinion!

Frozen Pizza: Jack's Original Supreme Pizza

Sorry, it's been over a week since I've blogged.  Hopefully, the blogs will start coming out more often.  I will also have guest bloggers that eat pizza in different cities.  I can't wait to have my guest blogger from the Chicago area blog about one of my favorites, Giordano's, which serves the original Chicago style pizza!!!
Also, I can't wait to start eating pizza in different cities, like Mama Bear's in Bloomington.  But now, to this week's pizza.
I have actually had two frozen pizzas in the last week, but I'm going to blog about Jack's Original Supreme Pizza.
This is one of my go-to frozen pizzas. 
The picture on the packaging is good looking pizza! 
So, you stick this pizza in the oven for about 15 minutes. 
It has good sauce, onions, peppers, pepperoni, and sausage.  The cheese is mozzarella.  The meat has a nice meaty taste and good consitancy.  The veggies are very small/diced.  My oven cooks uneven and hot, so, I always cook things about 25 degrees under the recommended temperature and watch it very closely.  (Yay for old apartment ovens that haven't been replaced in 25-ish years!!!)

This is how it looks frozen.  I usually move the pepperoni around a bit to even it out. I bake it straight on the rack without a pizza pan.

This is how it looks after it's been cook in my apartments old oven. You can see the uneveness on the cheese.  But this is still tasty goodnesss!  There are few veggies on this, but the ones that are on here taste pretty good and held up to freezing.  The pepperoni has a good flavor with a little bit of spice to give the pizza some kick.  The sausage has a little bit of kick, but it's not overly spicey.  The cheese seems to be quality, and even though it has been frozen bakes well.  The sauce is a good mix of sweet and zesty.  The crust is very thin, but it cooks up well when the pizza is baked on the rack without the pan. Over all, this Supreme pizza has good flavor, a good mix between all of the components.  Jack's frozen pizza makes for a good quick pizza fix, whether it's an emergency meal to pull out of the freezer, or something to eat while you watch a movie at home.  I give Jack's Original Supreme Pizza a 2 1/4 pizza pies out of 4 rating.  It's pretty good for a frozen pizza.
